Recently whilst in Rodrigues Island for part of the RIKF competition, all the competitors set off on a beautiful 30km downwinder (with assistance boats). It was a magic afternoon taking a good 2 hours or so in crystal clear waist deep water. Amazing!
At the end of the run we landing on a beautiful island called Ilse Catherine. Here they had a BBQ all setup with tasty treats like squid, chicken wings, fish kebabs and more.
Simon Wichtermann who was head judge of the competition, had a break from judging to join the downwinder and thought it would be a good idea to scale the cliff face and jump off with his kite!
It was a dodgy climb up the cliff face with the majority of the BBQ attendants all thinking he was going to die a horrible bone crushing death. At the top it was “gusty as f*ck” (in simons words) and it was actually a close call as someone that was helping him climb pulling him up by his safety accidentally released his safety! Luckily the wind went smooth and he managed to boost clean and keep his remaining good knee in place…
Haha well done, was a fun afternoon for everyone with many stops at “La Boutique” (local bottle shops) afterwards…
