Best Session with Beau Blake

Beau’s all smiles when it comes to kiting. “Nothing is better than a good ride with mates in howling wind and flat water”.

Interview by Peri Roberts

This guy isn’t your regular ‘school-boy, keen as, stoked on everything water’ kind of kid (he actually might be… but that’s beside the point). This 16-year-old kitesurfer from the Sunshine Coast knows what he wants and goes for it- even when things don’t go to plan he’s still got a smile on his face at the end of it, regardless. Over the past couple of years I have gotten to know this kid with the go-hard attitude; first meeting at the Merimbula Classic, it’s noticeable that he puts a lot of effort into his first impression in and out of the water. Who is this person? He goes by Beau Blake.

What has been your best session?

So far as a junior kiter I can say that I have had the privilege to have some amazing sessions in perfect kiting locations around the world with some great people. From cable rides at Bli Bli with Brandon Scheid and Jason Slezak, to foil sessions with Christoph Tack in Cape Town, kiteboarding has blessed me with some great experiences. Picking one particular session as my best is difficult. One memorable ride that I have had was one that was close to home.

One of my fellow Liquid Force teammates, Elliot Drury, was up on the Sunny Coast for the weekend and we happened to score some cranking wind at one of our flat water spots. Not only was the water smooth, wind perfect but me and Elliot were the only two riders out for most of the session.

Why was it so great?

The wind kept on filling in throughout the ride and towards the end we just started playing around. Elliot spotted a channel marker downwind that was in the perfect spot to bonk off of. With my dad standing on shore with the wide angle lens, and the two of tapping the channel marker, we managed to get some killer shots.

Nothing is better than a good ride with mates in howling wind and flat water. Getting some killer shots that let you share your ride with others is nice as well!
