Andy Yates: As far as the steeze-factor to simplicity-of-trick ratio is concerned, the nose press slide is about as good as it gets. With practice it’s one of the easiest tricks to perfect, and you’ll be turning the heads of everyone on the beach.
Here’s how:
Now, the water needs to be completely flat for the best press. It’s by no means impossible in choppy water, but you’ll find it’s easiest to learn when it’s glassed out.
I find that it’s easiest to ride on your preferred tack.
Get as much speed up as you can then swap around to toeside & lean back on your back foot to lift up the nose of the board. Obviously the more you lean, the higher the nose of the board goes. Now, at this point, you’re doing a tail press sort of thing. The next part is the most crucial; what you want to do is maintain your weight over your back foot whilst bringing it forward. What you’re after is about a 90 degree rotation so the board is more or less travelling sideways and what was your back foot is now leading.
It’s hard to maintain the press and weight shift, so it’s easier if you take your front hand off the bar and try to touch the water with it. It may take some time to get stable, especially if the water is a bit choppy. Keep the knee you have all the weight on BENT, and the other STRAIGHT. Maintain this position for as long as possible, preferably whilst looking around to see who’s watching you being the most raddest steeze-meister ever.
Andres Phillips Tips:
They are easier without fins as there is less drag. You are riding on a tiny piece of your board which will require a lot of energy to keep you planning, so go fast and keep your kite powered up. Pull up on the foot furthest from the water and press down with the foot closer to the water, the lower foot does most of the steering and if you angle your board correctly you’ll just cut thru the water but beware of catching your toeside edge because that tends to happen. Lean your weight out past the tip of your board so you can get enough leverage.
